WELCOME! To the Lexington Council #293, Knights of Columbus website. Located in the historic Greenpoint Section of Brooklyn, New York, Lexington is one of the oldest, most respected Councils in the Order. Lexington Council was founded on December 26th, 1897. During its colorful history, it has witnessed the turn of two centuries and a millennium, the Great Depression, the introduction of motion pictures, radio and television, a Presidential assassination, the Civil Rights Movement, man landing on the moon, and sadly, legalized abortion, Pearl Harbor, two World Wars, the Korean War, the Cold War, Viet Nam, the Gulf Wars, the attacks of 9/11/01, and the Global War on Terror. It has seen Immigrants, Baby Boomers, Beatniks and Yuppies join its ranks. It has also witnessed the beatification of Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul II, and the Founder of the Order of the Knights of Columbus, Blessed Fr. Michael J. McGivney.

Lexington Council has changed with, and reflected, the current times. Entertainment has ranged from members playing musical instruments, to bands, to a glee club, to disk jockeys playing records, 8-tracks, and now CD’s. Drinks at the bar have gone in and out of fashion – there is no more call for rye whiskey as vodka now takes center stage. Jackets and ties have been replaced by open collars and jeans. But the more things change, the more they remain the same. Lexington Council was formed on the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism, which are the foundation of the Knights of Columbus. The need for Charity is always with us, unfortunately, due to poverty, disease and natural disaster. “These are truly times that try men’s souls,” hence, the need for Knights to exemplify Unity of purpose. In a time of less socialization brought about by the computer, home theater, and reluctance to be a “joiner,” Knights demonstrate the benefits and power of Fraternity. In the era of global terrorism and a volunteer military, Knights personify the essence of Patriotism, both at home and in harm’s way abroad. Knights are unashamedly Pro-Life!

And so, Lexington Council enters the “information age” with its first Internet website, with links to E-mail, Facebook and Twitter. Lexington Council has had its own ups and downs through-out its history, but with the introduction of this website, it is fair to say that Lexington Council is back, better than ever! Amid the new condominiums under construction in “trendy” Greenpoint, merged Parishes and Schools, and mom and pop stores replaced by chain stores, one constant in the neighborhood for well over 100 years has been Lexington Council #293. We have been here, we are still here, and we will continue to be here as an anchor of this neighborhood, both in the Religious, Community and Social sense. This website has been constructed so all who visit it can understand what we mean when we say “Our Hats Off to the Past, Our Coats off to the Future! To our Members, Enjoy! To our visitors, we invite you to read about us and consider becoming one of us. We do not apologize for what we are. We are proud to proclaim we are “These Men They Call Knights!

God Bless! Welcome!
